Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Nebuchadnezzar did praise God; however, he did not believe in Him completely or submit to Him alone. Daniel interpreted a dream for Nebuchadnezzar, a dream which would come true and change Nebuchadnezzar for the better…after he learned a few lessons. King Belshazzar hosted a great banquet, and writing appeared on the wall, writing which Daniel was able to interpret. The message was for all of those who defied God. Daniel worked with people who did not believe in God, and jealous officials could not find anything to criticize Daniel about. He prayed to God always and made no attempt to hide his regular prayer routine from his enemies. He was thrown into a den of lions, and God protected him, just like he had at other times. Follow along in Daniel 4-6!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Our God is sovereign and above anyone or anything else. When Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, he did not know how to break the news to him. Daniel was disturbed by Nebuchadnezzar’s fate, and he had forgiven Nebuchadnezzar for wronging him in the past. The gift of forgiveness is a wonderful thing. Forgiveness means putting the past behind us and moving forward. We can always ask God to help us forgive others, forget the wrongs done to us, and love others. You never know how God is wanting to use each of us in someone else’s life. Nebuchadnezzar was full of pride, and God did/does not approve of pride. We must never allow our accomplishments in life to cause us to forget about our Heavenly Father, and He is the one who deserves the credit for all goodness that happens in our lives. As discussed in other areas of the Bible, God’s time of judgment will come for everyone. We, as sinners, all fall and sin in life; however, we must ask for forgiveness and turn back to God before the opportunity is no longer available. Just like Daniel did, we, too, can rely on God for protection. Our God is in complete control of our lives, helping us fight our battles along the way and protecting us from harm. Prayer is very important; it’s how we speak to God. We must not allow any threats or pressure to cut into our time with God. Our God alone can save us, and He will deliver His people. We must trust God with our lives. 🙂 When we are faithful to God, He can use us to make a wonderful impact on others.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Daniel and the lessons that come from each chapter. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please help us to love our enemies and to forgive those who have hurt us, as well. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Help us to treat others with kindness, and help us to show the same traits to others as You do, following Your example. Help us to trust in Your care and provision in each of our lives. Even though we do not always get what we want in life, we know that You know what is best for us. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us also to be more compassionate toward others who are struggling in this evil world, as well. Help us to be Your hands and feet in this world, and guide us in the right paths for our lives. Help us to trust in Your timing for our lives, and help us not to grow impatient. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the unique gifts and talents that You give to each one of us; help us to work in unity with others to accomplish Your plan. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
