Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Babylon was starting to become the dominant world power, and Judah would soon be feeling Babylon’s destruction. Habakkuk was a prophet who sought answers. He observed a broken and dying world, and his heart was broken. Whenever Habakkuk was troubled, he brought all of his concerns directly to God, for Habakkuk wasn’t sure why God was doing nothing about the wickedness in society. However, God responded to Habakkuk’s questions and concerns by telling him that He would do some amazing things. Follow along in Habakkuk 1-3!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Just as Habakkuk brought forth his concerns, complaints, and worries to God, so can we. God is always listening. We do not have to be afraid to ask questions of God. There are still many problems in the world today, and injustice is still a concern. We must not let our concerns cause us to doubt God or stray away from Him. Rather, we can consider the message that God gave to Habakkuk and remember God’s long-term plans and purposes. God always does what is right, and we must trust Him fully. We may not always understand His ways for us, but He knows exactly what He is doing, and He definitely knows what is best for each of us. God has a plan for all of us, and He will one day judge the evildoers of the world. We must patiently wait for our Heavenly Father to act. Our God is our strength. Remember, when the world seems to be falling apart around us, we must take our eyes off of our difficulties and look to God. God is alive and in complete control of the events that happen in the world around us and in the personal events in our lives.
