Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
These scriptures cover the time period when Adam and Eve were first populating the earth. Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain and Abel. After God refused Cain’s sacrifice, Cain killed Abel and was banished from his land. Even though Cain was banished, God still placed a mark to protect him from others’ retaliation. The Bible then talks about all of the descendants between Adam and Noah. The world was filled with corruption and sin, so God gave instructions to Noah to build the ark and gather his family and each animal in pairs of two. In rained for 40 days and 40 nights, killing all creatures that breathed air, except for what was on the ark.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Even though we sin, God still wants to protect us from evil. He only desires our healing and restoration. It also shows God’s mercy for people who follow Him and obey Him. He gave humanity a second chance when we didn’t deserve it.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, we know we are all sinners. We thank you for your gift of forgiveness and giving second chances. Please help us to show love to others and do the right things in all circumstances. We pray these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
