Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
These scriptures cover the time period when Noah and his family are still on the ark. The waters are starting to recede and dry land is found. Noah had listened to God and obeyed all of his requests, so God created a covenant with all living creatures that He would never destroy the earth with water ever again. The sign of this covenant was the rainbow. The Bible then discusses the genealogy of Noah’s sons. Man started to rebel against the will of God and started construction on the Tower of Babel. God intervened and created multiple languages to create a barrier among men.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Pride is always destructive to human community and to God’s plan of redemption. We can take God’s promise of never destroying the earth again as truth. We should all trust in God’s plan, instead of trying to create our own path. His paths are always best for us.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your promises, and help us strive to keep our human pride in check. Help us to follow your path for us, and to not stray from your will for us. We pray these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
