Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Job is considered a wealthy man of good character who loves God. He is blameless. To prove Job’s love and obedience to God, God allows Satan full access to Job’s life, with the exception of taking Job’s life. Job’s children and livestock are destroyed, and his health is plagued with boils and sores. Through all of these trials, Job remains loyal to God and never disobeys Him. Even when accused of sinning by Job’s friends, Job was obedient to God.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
What we learn from Job is that no matter what happens around us, God is in control. While we don’t always understand why we go through trials and tribulations, we should always remember who is in the driver’s seat. We should never blame God for our trouble; we should praise him even through the storms of life. We should always remember that through our trials, we are transformed and strengthened.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, we pray that through life’s trials and pain we are able to remember that you are in control. We give you full access to our lives, and we pray you would strengthen us through our troubles. Even though we face pain in this life, we know that all things are for your glory, and there is always a reason for what happens, even when we can’t understand it. Our mortal minds are not capable of understanding your methods, but we trust that you are always interested in our well-being. Thank you for the trials we go through, as we grow stronger and closer to you through them. We pray these things in Jesus’ name, amen.
