August 27, 2013 – Job 35-37 – Elihu has Knowledge.

August 27, 2013 by Robert Baker

Scripture: Job 35-37. Click here to view full scripture.

Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?

The discussion between Job and Elihu continues. Elihu explains to Job that God is still concerned about us even though He doesn’t intervene immediately in each situation. Elihu also points out that faith in God is far more important than Job’s want for an explanation for his suffering and that God’s sovereignty over all situations is a reminder of his sovereignty over our lives.

Application: How can we apply this to our lives?

God is in control of every aspect of our lives. God will execute justice, in His timing. Just because we do not get an answer immediately from God does not mean that He does not care about our situations. Wait upon the Lord. God is incomprehensible. While the Bible is full of details about who God is, how we can grow closer to him, and how we can have an eternal relationship with him, we can never know enough to have the answer to everything in life. We must constantly seek God for fresh insights and outlooks into life’s constant dilemmas. We must listen to Him and let Him guide our paths in life. God is in complete control; listen for His message. Too often we presume to speak for God, as Job’s three friends did, to put words in His mouth, to take Him for granted, or to interpret His silence to mean that He doesn’t care and will not help us in our everyday struggles. It is His timing; God does care. He knows what is best for us, and He will intervene at just the right time.

Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?

Heavenly Father, we thank you for this beautiful day. We ask for forgiveness for the many sins that we have all committed, and we are so thankful that You are such a loving God, giving us many chances in life. We know that You are in complete control of our lives. We know that You know the perfect timing and solutions for all of our struggles and battles in this life, and we thank You that we can have an eternal relationship with You. Help us to constantly seek You and to listen when You speak to us. Please guide our paths straight. We love You and thank You for everything – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
