Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
The discussion between Job and Elihu continues. Elihu explains to Job that God is still concerned about us even though He doesn’t intervene immediately in each situation. Elihu also points out that faith in God is far more important than Job’s want for an explanation for his suffering and that God’s sovereignty over all situations is a reminder of his sovereignty over our lives.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
God is in control of every aspect of our lives. God will execute justice, in His timing. Just because we do not get an answer immediately from God does not mean that He does not care about our situations. Wait upon the Lord. God is incomprehensible. While the Bible is full of details about who God is, how we can grow closer to him, and how we can have an eternal relationship with him, we can never know enough to have the answer to everything in life. We must constantly seek God for fresh insights and outlooks into life’s constant dilemmas. We must listen to Him and let Him guide our paths in life. God is in complete control; listen for His message. Too often we presume to speak for God, as Job’s three friends did, to put words in His mouth, to take Him for granted, or to interpret His silence to mean that He doesn’t care and will not help us in our everyday struggles. It is His timing; God does care. He knows what is best for us, and He will intervene at just the right time.
