It’s that dreary, cold, and dark time of year again…and the case of the winter blues begins to develop, leaving many people with the need to have a little encouragement.
What is depression?
Depression, best described by dictionary.com, is:
“sadness; gloom; dejection.”
So, what do you do when you feel depressed, and to whom do you turn to?
The Bible tells us that our help comes from the Lord. You see, God has promises for our every need.
Here are some Bible verses to read when you are feeling depressed:
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. – Isaiah 43:2
12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. – 1 Peter 4:12-13
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38-39

10 Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
11 The ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away. – Isaiah 51:11
These are all great Bible verses to turn to when you are feeling depressed or sad.
A great book to keep alongside your Bible is “God’s Promises for Your Every Need.” It is book full of the promises that God has in store for us no matter how we are feeling for the day. We can always look forward to being in eternity with Him one day…and that, my friends, is the perfect thing to remember when we are feeling depressed in life. 🙂
Heavenly Father, we pray for those who are suffering from depression, sadness, and gloom today. We lift them up to You, whatever their need. You know how to soothe and relieve us from the feelings of the enemy in life, Father, and we pray that You will continue to give us encouragement from Your Word and through the promises that You have in store for each and every one of us. Thank You for your love and encouragement on a daily basis. Please help everyone who is going through a rough time right now. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
