Today I am thankful for change.
When we decide to follow God and His ways for us, it does require change. Change requires removing old habits and developing new ones. God will and does help us change for the better, for He wants to help mold us into the people He has created us to be…and it all starts with change.
With God’s help, we all have an opportunity to change our paths for greatness and success. And change is a new beginning.
I truly believe in Mahatma Gandhi’s saying:
“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
You see, the possibility of forgiveness and the opportunity for change in our lives all became possible when God sent His one and only Son Jesus to die for our sins so that we all can be free from the slavery of our sins and our pasts.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. – Galatians 2:20
We are all sinners, and no matter who we are, we all have room for self-improvement. Our God is such a loving, understanding, merciful, and forgiving Father.
Let’s see what the Bible has to say about changing and self-improvement:
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. …- Romans 6:1-23
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. – Romans 5:1
So, then, how can we make a change in ourselves?
We can start off by changing our purpose in life by our love and dedication to God, by imitating Christ’s ways, and desiring eternal life, not punishment.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. – Romans 12:1
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. – Ephesians 4:22-24
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
We must also believe that we can change with God’s help.
13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength. – Philippians 4:13
We can meditate on God’s Word and learn from it.
8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. – Joshua 1:8
Repent of sin.
22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. – Acts 8:22
Consider the steps needed to take in order to change.
22 Do not those who plot evil go astray?
But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. – Proverbs 14:22
Pray without ceasing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Seek encouragement from others.
Practice what is right.
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. – James 1:22-25
Avoid temptations in life.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one. – Matthew 6:13
Take it a day at a time, and always be patient. 🙂
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. – Galatians 6:9
Today we can be thankful for change! What are you most thankful for today?
