Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
After eating the Passover meal with his disciples, Jesus and his companions went to the Garden of Gethsemane. It was there that Judas led one of the temple guards to arrest Jesus. Peter tried to protect Jesus and pulled out his sword, taking off the right ear of the high priest’s servant. Jesus told Peter to put away his sword and to let God’s plan unfold. Jesus touched the man’s ear and healed him. Follow along in John 18:1-11, as we continue our “30-Day Walk with Jesus” series!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
In attempting to protect Jesus, Peter pulled out his sword and wounded the high priest’s servant. Jesus, however, told Peter to put his sword away and to allow God’s plan to unfold, just as it was supposed to happen. Sometimes in life, it is a temptation of ours to take matters into our own hands. Usually, these types of moves will lead to sin. Instead, we are to trust our Heavenly Father with our lives and His plan for our lives.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to forgive others who have hurt us and make things right with those we hurt. Please help us to love others, just like you love us. Help us to always be honest people, and let our attitudes and actions be pleasing to You, Father. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. Please cure the world from sicknesses, diseases, and disabilities. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us to put our complete trust and faith in You, Father, for we know that You will work out Your plan. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
