Scripture: Romans 2:5-11. Click here to view full scripture.
Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
God cannot tolerate any sin because His nature is morally perfect. Paul’s argument, as we begin reading in the Book of Romans, is that all people deserve God’s condemnation for their sin. Paul creates a picture of the downward spiral of sin, how people fall away from God. God is a righteous Judge, and we will all, one day, be held accountable for our sins. Follow along in Romans 2:5-11, as we continue our “30-Day Walk with Jesus” series!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
God cannot tolerate sin; however, He does want to restore the sinner. We are all sinners, and God will forgive us when we ask Him to. However, we must not persist in sinning. God wants us to follow Him and His ways for our lives, not our own. He knows what is best for each and every one of us. God does not always punish us for our sins immediately; however, His Word tells us that His punishment is certain someday. We will all be accountable for our own sins. God wants us each to make Him our first priority, spending time with Him, getting to know Him and His love for us. Knowing that God exists is certainly not enough. Only God can help someone escape a life of sin. God gives each of us free will and allows us to make up our own choices and decisions; however, He will guide us on the right path in this life, and we must be obedient. We must be careful to flee from our temptations that lead to sinning against our Heavenly Father, for one day, we will all face judgment.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to forgive others who have hurt us and make things right with those we hurt. Please help us to love others, just like you love us. Help us to always be honest people, and let our attitudes and actions be pleasing to You, Father. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. Please cure the world from sicknesses, diseases, and disabilities. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us to put our complete trust and faith in You, Father, for we know that You will work out Your plan. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering.
