Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
This Book of the Bible was written by John, who was one of Jesus’ original twelve disciples. John wrote this letter in 1 John to let others know the difference between truth and error and to encourage the church to grow in their love for God and for one another. John emphasized the basics of faith so that we can be strong and continue growing as believers. In 1 John, we learn that God is light, God is love, and God is life. Follow along in 1 John 1-2, as we continue our “30-Day Walk with Jesus” series!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Our God is the Light. In this dark and fallen world, our God is light. We all have a sinful nature; however, when we fail, we must ask forgiveness from our Almighty Father. God tells us to love others, just as He loves us. We are to put others and their needs above our own, showing them that we care. As we grow, develop, and mature in our relationship with God, the more we can be focused on the truth – His truth. We can put our complete trust and faith in our God and His Word. God warns us against false teachers (antichrists) in these last days. We must not fear, however. We must cling closely to our Heavenly Father, our Protector.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to forgive others who have hurt us and make things right with those we hurt. Please help us to love others, just like you love us. Help us to put others before ourselves. Help us to always be honest people, and let our attitudes and actions be pleasing to You, Father. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. Please cure the world from sicknesses, diseases, and disabilities. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us to put our complete trust and faith in You, Father, for we know that You will work out Your plan. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Thank You for your saving grace, mercy, and love, Father. Please help us to stand up for our faith, no matter what the cost. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
