Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
The Bible teaches us that the greatest act of love is giving ourselves for others. John touches on Jesus’ teaching that whoever hates another person is a murderer at heart. We also learn in 1 John that we are to believe in Jesus, love others, and live morally, God-pleasing lives. Follow along in 1 John 3:11-24, as we continue our “30-Day Walk with Jesus” series!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
God wants us to be selfless, to serve and love others above ourselves and our needs. God knows everything about us; He knows our motives and our actions. John reassures us that God has promised us that whatever we ask for will be given to us – 7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” – Matthew 7:7. God does not, however, give us everything that we want. He knows what is best for us, and He will provide for our needs.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to forgive others who have hurt us and make things right with those we hurt. Please help us to love others, just like you love us. Help us to put others before ourselves. Help us to always be honest people, and let our attitudes and actions be pleasing to You, Father. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. Please cure the world from sicknesses, diseases, and disabilities. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us to put our complete trust and faith in You, Father, for we know that You will work out Your plan. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Help us to live for You in every aspect of our lives. Thank You for your saving grace, mercy, and love, Father. Please help us to stand up for our faith, no matter what the cost. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
