Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Loving others and following God was at the very center of God’s law. Israel had abandoned their faith and began to worship false idols. In the Book of Judges, we preview the cycle of sin, judgment, and repentance that the Israelites experienced over and over again. Follow along in Judges 2:10-19, as we continue our “30-Day Walk with Jesus” series!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Children learn by example, and God wants us to continue to pass our faith on to the next generation. A generation of Israelites had abandoned the faith that their parents had taught them and started to worship the false gods of their neighbors. We, too, can slide off the right path in our lives. We can be tempted to abandon what we know is right. However, we must be obedient to our Heavenly Father. He knows what is best for each of us. Even though Israel was disobedient to God, He still showed them His great mercy and love. God also gives us His great mercy and love. God sent His son Jesus to die for our sins. God forgives us, even though we do not deserve it. We must stay close to God, be loyal to Him, and remain faithful even in the midst of difficult situations.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to forgive others who have hurt us and make things right with those we hurt. Please help us to love others, just like you love us. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
