Scripture: 1 Samuel 8. Click here to view full scripture.
Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Samuel was getting older, and he appointed his sons to be judges in Israel in his place; however, Samuel’s sons turned out to be corrupt. Israel wanted a king, but God knew that Israel having a king would make it easier to forget that God was their true leader. The people believed that having a king would bring about a change in the nation. Follow along in 1 Samuel 8, as we continue our “30-Day Walk with Jesus” series!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Samuel’s sons had turned corrupt. If grown children are not following God, the parents must realize that they cannot control them any longer; they are not responsible for the sins their children commit. However, it is very important to be a great role model in a child’s life, helping to mold and shape their lives. We must willing to submit to God’s leadership in our lives, fleeing away from the world’s standards and values. We must have complete faith and trust in our Heavenly Father. Making important decisions in life is sometimes difficult; however, it will help to start with weighing the positives and negatives carefully before making a decision. Asking God for his wisdom and guidance is always a great thing to do, as well. 🙂
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to forgive others who have hurt us and make things right with those we hurt. Please help us to love others, just like you love us. Please help us to be great role models and good influences on other people around us. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
