Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Saul had disobeyed God and then lied to Samuel about the results of the battle; Saul thought that he had become a great victor and defeated the Amalekites. Saul was starting to deceive himself, and he grew rebellious and arrogant. God finally did reject Saul and took away his kingdom. Follow along in 1 Samuel 15:17-23, as we continue our “30-Day Walk with Jesus” series!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Dishonesty is not a good thing. Oftentimes, people who have been dishonest begin to believe the lies that they construct around themselves. They can also lose the ability to tell the difference between the truth and a lie. God wants us to be honest. God had rejected Saul as a king of Israel; however, He was not rejecting Saul as an individual. Our God is a very loving and forgiving Father. He is always waiting with open arms for us to ask for forgiveness for our failures and turn back to Him. We will one day, however, all be accountable for our actions. Our attitudes and actions must be pleasing to God.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to forgive others who have hurt us and make things right with those we hurt. Please help us to love others, just like you love us. Help us to always be honest people, and let our attitudes and actions be pleasing to You, Father. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
