Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Today’s psalm is written by David, Psalm 133, and the theme is the joy of harmonious relationships. Even though this song is very short and sweet, it speaks of how important brotherly unity is. We all come together in life for one purpose – to work together in order to serve God.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
As this psalm describes, living in unity is very important, for we all need to work together to serve our Heavenly Father. David described unity as “pleasant” and “precious.” People often disagree and cause division over issues that are not important. Unity is important because it makes the church a positive example to the world and draws others to us, it helps us cooperate together as a group of believers as God wants us to, and it also renews ministry. Unity certainly does not mean that we, as humans, will agree on everything. However, we can all come together, agreeing on our most important purpose in life, which is to serve our Father God. We must all be dedicated to serving God wholeheartedly.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Psalms, and the lessons that come from each beautiful song. Please help us all to work together for our one special purpose in life – serving You and doing the work that You have called us to do. Help us to remain faithful to You through all of our trials and struggles in this life, and please keep our hearts clean. We know that You are our greatest strength, and we trust You. Help us to always obey You, trust You, and follow the path that You have paved for our lives. Help us to draw near to You in our times of trouble and on a daily basis. Help us to commit our ways to You and to trust You for the outcome. Father, please give us a fresh touch of Your love. Please pour out Your love on us, our friends and families, our churches, and on our spiritual paths with You. We give our enemies up to You, and we ask for Your protection. We know that You know what is best for us, and we trust You. We thank You for every single thing that You are doing in our lives. Help us to lift our hurts, pains, fears, and worries up to You, Father, for we know You are listening and are there to comfort us. Please forgive us for the many sins that we commit, and help us to forgive others. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
