Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Today we read another couple of great songs that speak of God patiently delivering us, even in spite of our forgetfulness, and constantly praising God for his many blessings. Follow along in today’s scripture study, as we see what these beautiful songs, Psalm 106 and Psalm 107, speak to our hearts.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Psalm 106 is basically a summary of man’s sinfulness. The Bible is full of acts and miracles that God has performed. The more we think about what God has done, the more we appreciate the things that God has done for us individually in life. We must trust in God’s care and provision in our lives. We do not always get what we want in life, for God knows what is best for each of us. Just as the Israelites had forgotten about God, we are also susceptible to forgetting Him. We want to stay close to God to make sure that we do not give in to the pressures of this fallen world. God had allowed troubles to fall on the Israelites to help them and to teach them specific lessons. When we have troubles and struggles in life, they can humble us, drive us back to God and keep us from wandering, make our prayers stronger, make us more dependent upon God, encourage us to submit to God, and to make us more compassionate toward other people who are struggling, as well. No matter what battles we are facing in life, God is able to break through and help us. God loves all of His children, no matter how much they have fallen. We must pray for those who are persecuted for their faith, those who are victims of injustice, those who are in prison – pray for all of the people of this world. When we ask God to take complete control of our lives, He will answer us. Praise God for all that He is and all that He does.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Psalms, and the lessons that come from each beautiful song. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to love our enemies and to forgive those who have hurt us, as well. Help us to trust in Your care and provision in each of our lives. Even though we do not always get what we want in life, we know that You know what is best for us. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us also to be more compassionate toward others who are struggling in this evil world, as well. Help us to be Your hands and feet in this world, and guide us in the right paths for our lives. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
