Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
These seven songs talk about how we can depend upon God for help, looking to God for mercy, how God delivers us from people who attempt to destroy us, how God is our Protector, the marriage prayer, confidence in God to bring us through tough times, and assurance of the Lord’s forgiveness when we fail in life. Follow along in Psalm 121, Psalm 123-125, and Psalm 128-130!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Our God is all-powerful, and He watches over us day and night. We can be assured and have hope in God’s protection over us. God gives us mercy. We must always look for God’s leading in our lives. God is on our side when we seek Him. No problem is ever beyond God’s ability, so we must constantly ask Him for guidance in our lives. God is also our Protector. We must be patient as we wait upon the Lord. Psalm 128 is called the “marriage prayer.” It speaks of the values outlined in God’s Word – love, honesty, prayer, service, and integrity. The theme of Psalm 129 is confidence during the hard times of our lives. If God brings us to something, He will certainly bring us through it. Our God is a very forgiving God, and we can rest assured that God will forgive us when we fail if we confess our sins to Him.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Psalms, and the lessons that come from each one. Please help us to put our relationship with You above any and all earthly riches, for we know that You are the only one who can completely satisfy us. Help us to remain faithful to You through all of our trials and struggles in this life, and please keep our hearts clean. Help us to always obey You, trust You, and follow the path that You have paved for our lives. Help us to draw near to You in our times of trouble and on a daily basis. Help us to commit our ways to You and to trust You for the outcome. Help us to flee from revenge, always treating others – even our enemies – in God-honoring ways. We give our enemies up to You, and we ask for Your protection. Help us never to doubt or resent You when an answer to prayer is not on our timing. Please help us to fulfill the responsibilities that You have for us. We know that You know what is best for us, and we trust You. Please forgive us for the many sins that we commit, and help us to forgive others. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
