Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Today’s psalms express how truly important it is that God is in our lives. These songs speak of the contrast between true and false faith, how only God can save us all from our sins, our real help comes from God alone, and how God will ultimately overrule and destroy the wicked people of the world, for He is the final judge. Follow along in these beautiful songs, Psalm 50/53/60/75!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
God wants us to wholeheartedly love and obey Him, not just get into the pattern of an empty ritual. He wants us to participate in religious activities – tithing, church, etc. – out of heartfelt love and obedience. God will judge those who refuse to love and obey Him. God wants His people to turn back to Him from the wicked world. The Bible describes those who turn from God as foolish. It is very foolish to reject God, for He is the only one who can save us all. Our God is a very forgiving God, and He will forgive us for our failures if we just ask Him to. Our real help comes from God alone. He is in complete control. When situations in life seem out of control, we can trust in God to do mighty things and help us along the way. As humans, we seem to grow very impatient with the concept of God’s timing. God’s timing is way better than our own, and we may grow impatient. However, we must wait for God to reveal His plan to us, for we must not doubt the wisdom of His timing. God is the ultimate judge and will have the final word. We must make it a daily practice to acknowledge God’s power and sovereignty in our lives.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Psalms, and the lessons that come from each beautiful song. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please help us to love our enemies and to forgive those who have hurt us, as well. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Help us to treat others with kindness, and help us to show the same traits to others as You do, following Your example. Help us to trust in Your care and provision in each of our lives. Even though we do not always get what we want in life, we know that You know what is best for us. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us also to be more compassionate toward others who are struggling in this evil world, as well. Help us to be Your hands and feet in this world, and guide us in the right paths for our lives. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
