Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Today’s psalms are written by David and bring out themes such as declaring our loyalty to God, following God’s will and waiting patiently for Him to answer or direct us, rejoicing in knowing that God will someday judge those who have treated us unjustly with complete fairness, God will answer our cries for help, God is in complete control of our lives and He will rescue us, placing all hope in God, and God is our protection when others conspire against us. Follow along in these beautiful songs, Psalm 26/40/58/61-62/64!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
In Psalm 26, David was asking God to clear his name of any false charges that were made against him by his enemies. We, also, can ask God to examine our hearts, trusting Him to forgive us completely. Many times, we complain about our problems to those who will listen and praise God privately. It is better to complain privately and praise God out in the open. God hears our complaints and is there for us when we need Him the most. We oftentimes grow impatient waiting for God to answer us in the midst of our struggles in life. David said that he would speak of God’s faithfulness and salvation to the people around him. It is hard to hide the impact of God’s righteousness in our lives. It is exciting to tell others what God has done for us and how He is working in our lives. God’s faithfulness is perfect. He loves us even in spite of our failures, and He keeps all of His promises to us. Many of the earth’s judges are corrupt, so there is little hope of justice in this fallen world. However, God is the perfect judge, and those of us who obey Him will one day experience perfect justice in Heaven with Him. God is our strength and our refuge. We can always count on Him to be with us. God can also help us change our outlook in life. We can be freed from the resentment that we hold against others when they hurt us. God wants to hear everything we want to tell Him, and He will completely understand us.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Psalms, and the lessons that come from each beautiful song. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please help us to love our enemies and to forgive those who have hurt us, as well. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Help us to treat others with kindness, and help us to show the same traits to others as You do, following Your example. Help us to trust in Your care and provision in each of our lives. Even though we do not always get what we want in life, we know that You know what is best for us. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us also to be more compassionate toward others who are struggling in this evil world, as well. Help us to be Your hands and feet in this world, and guide us in the right paths for our lives. Help us to trust in Your timing for our lives, and help us not to grow impatient. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
