December 6, 2013 – Psalm 43-45/49/84-85/87 – Songs with Meaning

December 6, 2013 by Robert Baker

Scripture: Psalm 43-45/49/84-85/87. Click here to view full scripture.

Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?

Today we read through psalms which include themes such as hope in times of discouragement, being confident that God will restore us when we feel defeated in life, a poem to the king on his wedding, relating Christ and the church praising God throughout all generations, trusting in God rather than worldly possessions, God’s living presence in our lives is our greatest joy, a psalm asking God to revive His people, and a psalm about the city of God. Follow along in Psalm 43-45, Psalm 49, Psalm 84-85, and Psalm 87!

Application: How can we apply this to our lives?

We, as humans, all face darkness and uncertainty in life. We must follow God’s light and truth, as He will guide us. God’s truth to us provides the right path for us to follow, and God’s light will give us the clear vision in order to follow His path for us. God will never let us down; He is very trustworthy. Nothing can separate us from God’s love. Our God can and will provide our strength in any circumstance in life. When we become consumed by our fears, God is our refuge. We cannot take worldly possessions with us when we pass away. We must place our complete trust in God, obey Him, and do good for His kingdom, for we will one day be with our Heavenly Father in eternity, which is what really matters. Take time from the busyness and stresses of life to meet and talk with God. We can do that anywhere; however, inside a church building or somewhere quiet can help us focus our attention on God. Seek God, and He will give you restoration. We can ask Him to pour out His love over us, our friends and families, our churches, and our spiritual paths in life.

Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Psalms, and the lessons that come from each beautiful song. Please help us to put our relationship with You above any and all earthly riches, for we know that You are the only one who can completely satisfy us. Help us to remain faithful to You through all of our trials and struggles in this life, and please keep our hearts clean. Help us to always obey You, trust You, and follow the path that You have paved for our lives. Help us to draw near to You in our times of trouble and on a daily basis. Help us to commit our ways to You and to trust You for the outcome. Father, please give us a fresh touch of Your love. Please pour out Your love on us, our friends and families, our churches, and on our spiritual paths with You.We give our enemies up to You, and we ask for Your protection. Help us never to doubt or resent You when an answer to prayer is not on our timing. Please help us to fulfill the responsibilities that You have for us. We know that You know what is best for us, and we trust You. Please forgive us for the many sins that we commit, and help us to forgive others. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
