Today I am thankful for God’s mercy and grace!
Dictionary.com defines the word mercy as:
“compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one’s power; compassion, pity, or benevolence.”
We are all sinners – there is no doubt about that (Romans 3:23). We all deserve punishment. However, through God sending His son Jesus to die for us, we can be freed from the slavery and chains of our sins! Through Jesus, we are given a second chance in life.
Mercy is God not punishing us as our sins deserve. In fact, each day that we live is an act of God’s mercy!
Of course, with any wrong or illegal act committed, we are always faced with punishment. But, God, being the loving Father that He is, gives us His mercy when we sin, and He withholds punishment and judgment from us.
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
Be sure to thank God daily for His mercy upon us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. – Hebrews 4:16
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— – Ephesians 2:4-5
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5:1
Dictionary.com defines the word grace as:
“a manifestation of favor, especially by a superior.”
Grace is getting what we, as sinners, DO NOT deserve.
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
The gift of eternal life is definitely not something that we deserve; however, it was freely given to us by God, because He loves us. God sees past our sins and wicked ways. You see, God blesses us when we clearly do not deserve it.
Be sure to thank God daily for giving us His grace.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, … – Ephesians 2:8
You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. – 2 Timothy 2:1-2
But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. – Acts 20:24
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. – John 5:24
Today I am thankful for God’s saving mercy and grace! Through His mercy and grace, we can see how much we are loved by our Heavenly Father up above.
