Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Today’s psalms are written by David and bring out themes such as God will defend us from lies spoken against us, God forgives those who confess their sins, and He alone is the source of healing and protection, God always remains on our side when we are sick or people desert us, and how we can meditate on God’s love and kindness. Follow along in these beautiful songs, Psalm 5/38/41-42!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
God wants us to pray and talk to Him on a daily basis. It is best to start our prayers in the morning when we are free from distractions, starting a new day, and then we can commit the whole day to God, talking to Him throughout it. God does forgive us when we ask Him to. David cried out to God, asking for forgiveness. David knew that he deserved to be punished, but he was asking for God’s mercy upon him. We are also free to ask God for mercy; however, we should never deny that we do deserve punishment for our wrongs. Our sin can have both mental and physical side effects that can cause us to suffer. God sometimes punishes us to bring us back to Him and on the right path again. Sometimes in life, others try to tear us down; however, we can trust God to guard and protect our reputation. He knows the truths about us, and that is all that matters. There is no need to seek revenge ourselves; God will take care of us. Just as God blesses us in life, we must bless others. God cares for each of us deeply, and we should put our complete faith in Him, knowing that we can trust Him in the day-to-day experiences of our lives. Sometimes we get depressed in life. Psalm 42 is a great chapter to focus on when we are feeling down in the dumps, for it speaks about God’s goodness. God’s goodness is what we can meditate on daily.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Psalms, and the lessons that come from each beautiful song. Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please help us to love our enemies and to forgive those who have hurt us, as well. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Help us to treat others with kindness, and help us to show the same traits to others as You do, following Your example. Help us to trust in Your care and provision in each of our lives. Even though we do not always get what we want in life, we know that You know what is best for us. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us also to be more compassionate toward others who are struggling in this evil world, as well. Help us to be Your hands and feet in this world, and guide us in the right paths for our lives. Help us to trust in Your timing for our lives, and help us not to grow impatient. We thank You for Your son Jesus who died to free us from the slavery of our sins. Thank You for the promise of one day living in eternity with You. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
