Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Hosea began his ministry during the end of the reign of Jeroboam II. God wanted Israel to turn away from their sin(s) and return back to Him; however, they persisted in their wickedness. God instructed Hosea to marry a woman named Gomer, who would be unfaithful to him and cause many problems. Just like Hosea’s wife was unfaithful to him, Israel was unfaithful to God. Through this Book of Hosea, we can see the nation’s sin, God’s judgment upon His people, His love, and restoration. Follow along in this new Book of the Bible, Hosea 1-7!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
God instructed Hosea to marry a woman who would be unfaithful to be an example and comparison to God’s relationship to the unfaithful nation of Israel. Hosea may not have wanted to do that, but he obeyed what God told him to do. God wants our complete devotion. God can accomplish His own purposes without any help from us. We are each very important to God, and He knows what is best for our lives. We must have God in our lives; for on our own, we do not have the ability to fulfill nor disrupt God’s plans. Even though Israel was completely unfaithful to God, God was still faithful and merciful to His people. He wanted/wants His people to turn their hearts back to Him, and he was/is always waiting with open arms. No matter how much we fail in life, God is always willing to bring us back to Him to redeem us and lift us up again. When we find that we are at fault in life, we must change our way(s) before God before He will be willing to help us. God wants us to stay clear of temptation. We can remind ourselves that God is always watching us; so, when faced with an opportunity to sin, that is a good thing to remember – God sees and hears everything. 🙂 We can be great examples to others when they can see the love in us that comes from our loving Heavenly Father. We can have positive influences on people who do not know God, and we can point them to God. Let’s go make a difference today!

Father, we know that we are sinners, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Please help us to always follow Your ways for us, obeying and praising You through all circumstances in our lives. Please help us to love and obey You wholeheartedly. Please help us to love our enemies and to forgive those who have hurt us, as well. Please be with those who have rejected You, and help them to return to You, Father, before judgement. Help us to treat others with kindness, and help us to show the same traits to others as You do, following Your example. Help us to trust in Your care and provision in each of our lives. Even though we do not always get what we want in life, we know that You know what is best for us. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us also to be more compassionate toward others who are struggling in this evil world, as well. Help us to be Your hands and feet in this world, and guide us in the right paths for our lives. Help us to trust in Your timing for our lives, and help us not to grow impatient.
