Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Malachi was a prophet to the southern kingdom who confronted God’s people with their neglect of the Temple and their false worship. The priests of the Temple had been failing to be good examples to the people and also honoring God. And God warned the priests that if they did not obey God, He would certainly punish them. Malachi also reminded the people to tithe to God, along with other commitments to God. God had specific guidelines and rules for the peoples’ sacrifices to Him. Follow along in Malachi 1-4!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
The people of Israel were cynical about God’s love for them. God loves each and every one of us; He made us. God only wanted perfect animals sacrificed in the Book of Malachi. We must give our God the first portion and the best of everything, for what we give to God reflects our attitude toward Him. As mentioned over and over again in God’s Word, we must flee from our temptations and the sins of the world. God will forgive us when we ask Him, but we must do our best to please Him. God is always waiting with open arms for us to turn back to Him. God’s Word is meant to teach us between right and wrong and to help us learn from the mistakes of the people in the Bible. We must learn and apply it to our daily lives. The end of Malachi, also the end of the Old Testament, is filled with hope. One day, all evil and wickedness in this world will be destroyed, and peace will fill the world. We can trust God with our lives, for one day, everything will be made right again, just how God had intended.

Even though we do not always get what we want in life, we know that You know what is best for us. Please help us to draw near to You, and please protect us from giving in to the pressures of this fallen world. We want to live Godly lives. When we face struggles in this life, Father, please help us to call upon You. Help us also to be more compassionate toward others who are struggling in this evil world, as well.
