Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
These Psalms from David speak of trusting in God’s care in the midst of fear, a prayer for deliverance from false accusers and not belonging to the world, a prayer against those who slander or threaten us, a prayer for help when facing temptations, and a prayer for when we are overwhelmed or desperate. Follow along with Psalm 56, Psalm 120, and Psalms 140-142!
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
All of these Psalms seem to have one common theme throughout: We must trust in God and in His care in the midst of our fears and struggles in life. We can always depend upon God for help in life. He wants us to be peacemakers instead of fighting with others. It is not always the easiest thing to be peacemakers, but we must put forth our best efforts. No matter what our situations and circumstances are in life, our Lord God is always with us. We can ask God to guard our tongues and hearts, for we must flee from our temptations in this fallen world. We also can call to God when we are overwhelmed and desperate, as well as any other time. God cares for each of us deeply.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the examples and stories that You have placed in Your Word for us to learn from. Thank You for the Book of Psalms, and the lessons that come from each one. Help us to remain faithful to You through all of our trials and struggles in this life. Help us to always obey You, trust You, and follow the path that You have paved for our lives. Help us to listen for You to speak to us. Help us to draw near to You in our times of trouble and on a daily basis. Help us to commit our ways to You and to trust You for the outcome. Help us to be peacemakers instead of trouble-makers, and please guard our hearts and tongues, helping us to flee from the temptations of this world. Please forgive us for the many sins that we commit, and help us to forgive others. Please guide and protect us, our friends, families, pets, and our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
