Scripture: Joshua 16-18. Click here to view full scripture.
Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
Joshua, Chapters 16-18 speak of the division of the rest of the promised land, Canaan, to the twelve tribes. Manasseh and Ephraim, the descendants of Joseph, received their inheritance, as well as the tribe of Benjamin. The land of Canaan was divided exactly as God had instructed Moses in the years prior. Joshua followed God’s plans just as He had instructed Moses and himself. Read exactly how the promised land was divided in Joshua, Chapters 16-18.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
One of the reasons why the Israelites encountered problems as they started to settle the land was because they failed to fully conquer the land and drive out the sinful inhabitants, as God had instructed. We must ask ourselves if we are tolerating sinful practices and thoughts, accepting the half-measures as good enough. God wants us to follow His instructions precisely and thoroughly. God promised Caleb an inheritance of the land, and He stayed true to His word. God kept His promise to other descendants of tribes, as well. God does keep His word to us. Also, some of God’s greatest promises to us are yet to be fulfilled, and it gives us much to look forward to.
