Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
In Joshua, Chapter 19, the tribes of Simeon, Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, Dan, and Joshua all received their inheritances of land. In the years prior, God has told Moses that He wanted the Israelites to set aside special cities as “cities of refuge,” which were to be scattered throughout the promised land. The purpose of setting aside these special cities was to prevent injustice, especially in cases of revenge. The Levites were given the task of ministering to the Israelites, so God had given them cities throughout the land. God fulfilled every promise He had given to the Israelites.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
The tribe of Dan discovered that some of their land was more difficult to conquer, so they migrated to somewhere where they knew victory would come easier. Anyone can trust God when things are going smoothly, but it’s when things start looking more impossible when our faith and courage are truly put to the test. God had proven faithful in fulfilling every promise that He had given to His people. God’s promises are always fulfilled on His timetable, not ours. Sometimes that is a difficult thing to realize, because we grow impatient. We must continue to obey Him and faithfully do what we know He wants us to do, completely trusting Him for the future. God always knows what is best for us, and that’s the route He will take.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for another beautiful day filled with opportunities to serve You. Please help us to trust You always, even when things seem impossible to us. We know that anything is possible for You, and we put our complete trust and faith in You. Thank You for being such a loving and forgiving Father. Thank You for always staying true to Your word. Please be with all of our friends and families as we go about our day, and please, Father, lift up our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted for loving and following You. Please protect them. Forgive those who are harming them. Please forgive us for our sins, as well. We love You and thank You for everything. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
