love the lord your god

October 27, 2013 – Deuteronomy 11-13 – “Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.”

Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?

Deuteronomy 11:1 states,”Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.” The Israelites had great reasons to believe in God and obey all of his commands. The Israelites were given specific laws for proper worship to God. The Israelites were to destroy every pagan altar and idol in the land when they were taking over a nation. The people were also warned against false prophets who encouraged the worship of other gods. The Israelites were to love and obey the Lord completely, as addressed in Deuteronomy 11-13.

Application: How can we apply this to our lives?

God places many examples of His miracles and His love for people in the Bible. These lessons from the Old Testament, instructions given for the present, and the glimpses into the future give us many opportunities to strength our relationship, faith, and trust in Him. We have the choice in life to live for ourselves or to devote ourselves completely to God. We will never get anywhere in life if we choose to live for ourselves, but if we choose to live God’s way, it will lead us to receive eternal life someday with Him. We must always flee from our temptations in life. We can overcome our temptations by spending time with God in prayer and studying His Word.

Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the many examples of Your miracles and love for Your people. Please help us to strengthen our relationship with You and to fully trust and rely upon You. You know the right path for our lives, Father, and we ask that You will guide us and help us to be patient along the way. Help us to flee from our temptations, and to overcome them by spending time with You and reading the Word. Please forgive us, and help us to forgive others. We love You and thank You. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
