Today I am thankful for the rain…
…the raindrops that fall from the sky on a rainy day, the smell of fresh rain, the refreshing feeling of a cool rain on a warm and muggy day, the view of a steady rain from the other side of the window where it’s warm and cozy, etc.
I am also thankful for God’s healing rain.
We all go through things in life that try and defeat us…struggles, battles, and trials that bring us pain, heartache, discouragement, doubt, hopelessness, anger, bitterness, sickness, fear, etc.
Then, when we decide to let go and let God take over, it is refreshing. God’s healing rain gives us assurance, hope, relief, and strength to continue on. It’s like a very light mist on a mild, balmy day that regenerates, encourages, and strengthens our very beings.
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Have you ever heard of the song Healing Rain by Michael W. Smith?
Healing rain is coming down
It’s coming nearer to this old town
Rich and poor, weak and strong
It’s bringing mercy, it won’t be long
Healing rain is coming down
It’s coming closer to the lost and found
Tears of joy, and tears of shame
Are washed forever in Jesus’ name
Healing rain, it comes with fire
So let it fall and take us higher
Healing rain, I’m not afraid
To be washed in Heaven’s rain
Lift your heads, let us return
To the mercy seat where time began
And in your eyes, I see the pain
Come soak this dry heart with healing rain
And only You, the Son of man
Can take a leper and let him stand
So lift your hands, they can be held
By someone greater, the great I Am
Throughout the Bible, we read that water is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit can quench our thirst, give us a new life, and refresh our tired and heavy hearts.
37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
You see, we all struggle in life. We all go through tough times. We all need God’s healing rain to wash over us!
Just like the rain is life-giving to the crops, plants, and trees, so is God’s healing rain to us!
Today I am thankful for life-giving rain, God’s healing rain.
