Today I am thankful for rest and relaxation time.
Now, I don’t know about you, but there is nothing more peaceful than slowing your brain down, throwing up your feet, and taking a huge sigh of relief that it is time for some rest and relaxation…work is done for the day, appointments are all over with, full belly from supper…and time to rest.
And that’s just one example of rest.
My favorite time of the day is the time to rest in God’s presence… finding a nice, warm and sunny spot, cozy blanket, Bible in hand, KLOVE Radio turned up, silent praying and talking to God, and rest…resting in His presence. All my worries, concerns, fears, frustration, etc., from the day…gone…and I am at absolute peace.
I am also thankful for peaceful nights of rest. Without rest, we are not usually able to function properly.
You see, God knew exactly what He was doing when He created rest for us. And, God will give us rest – rest in His presence, rest for exhaustion, rest for the night, rest from the craziness of life, rest from our burdens:
And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”- Exodus 33:14
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. – Mark 6:31
“Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest. – Exodus 34:21
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” – Psalm 46:10
So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. – Genesis 2:3
For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.” – Jeremiah 21:35
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. …- Psalm 23:1-6
Rest is a beautiful thing. We must all take time to slow down and spend time with God, letting all of our troubles melt away from the difficulties in life. Remember, God is our refuge and our strength (Psalm 46); He will give us rest!
Today I am thankful for rest and relaxation time, my time to rest from the craziness of the day, my time to rest in God’s presence and from the troubles of life, and peaceful nights of rest.
