Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
The Lord told Moses to tell the Israelites to bring Him an offering. The Lord then gave Moses instructions to have the Israelites build a sanctuary for Him, a tabernacle where they could worship the Lord their God. God gave Moses the exact pattern of how He wanted it created, the Ark, the Table, the Lampstand, the Tabernacle, the Alter of Burnt Offering, the Courtyard, the Oil for the Lampstand, the Priestly Garments – the Ephod, the Breastpiece, etc. Aaron was to be a high priest, overseeing other priests, and sacred garments were to be made for him to give him dignity and honor. God also explained how to consecrate the priests and what burnt offerings to give. These were very precise instructions that God gave to Moses for the Israelites, for God was teaching the Israelites how to worship Him.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
God was teaching His people how to worship Him. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, so daily sacrifices are no longer required. Today, instead of pastors sacrificing animals, they lead us in prayer and teach us about the commandments and benefits that characterize our new life as Christians. The Israelites, God’s people, were serious about their relationship with Him. We, too, should take our relationship with God seriously. Sometimes we tend to take God for granted, rushing into worship. God wants to live among us and in our hearts. We must obey His every Word and communicate with Him through prayer, staying close with Him. God loves us and wants what is best for each and every one of us. The example of God leading His people, the Israelites, out of Egypt showed his great desire to be with them and protect them. God wants to be near us and protect us just the same.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, thank You for the examples You show us in the Bible of Your love to all of us. Please help us to be serious about our relationships with You. Help us not to take You for granted, rushing our worship time with You. Help us to obey Your every Word and to constantly communicate with You through prayer. We know that You know what is best for each and every one of us. We want to be close with You. Please forgive us, and help us to forgive others. We love You and thank You. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
