Scripture: Leviticus 5-7. Click here to view full scripture.
Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
The beginning chapters of Leviticus describe the variety of offerings and how they were to be used, including the the Burnt Offering, the Grain Offering, the Fellowship Offering, and the Sin Offering. Leviticus Chapter 5 describes the Guilt Offering. The Guilt Offering was a way of taking care of sin committed unintentionally. Jesus Christ’s death has made the Guilt Offering unnecessary for us today. Leviticus also begins to describe the general and continual priestly duties. The regulations for the offerings are also described.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
Even though Jesus Christ’s death has made the Guilt Offering unnecessary for us today, we should still make things right with those we hurt. God forgives us for our sins, so we should follow His example and forgive others, as well. The Fellowship Offering was divided into three different kinds – Thanksgiving Offering, Vow Offering, and a Freewill Offering. Whenever someone wanted to show their thanks to God, they would use the Thanksgiving Offering as a gift. We, too, can show our thanks and appreciation to our Heavenly Father and to others. We should take time to communicate our personal gratitude both to God and to others who have helped and blessed us.
Prayer: What can we pray for in regards to these passages?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for being such a loving and forgiving God. Please help us to make things right with those we hurt. Please forgive us for the many sins that we have committed, for we are imperfect. Help us also to forgive others, just as You have forgiven us. Thank You for sending Your son Jesus to die for our sins. We are so thankful for each and every thing that You do for us. Help us to communicate better our personal gratitude to You as well as to others who have helped us. We love You and thank You. – in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
