Observation: What was going on in the Bible at this time?
In Leviticus Chapter 8, God gave instructions to the priests, the ordination process of Aaron and his sons. Moses told the people what God instructed them to do, and they followed His commands. God sent fire from the sky to consume Aaron’s offering, and the people were amazed. Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, were careless about following the laws of sacrifices God had given them. They offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, and the fire of the Lord consumed them. God gave instructions to the Israelites about clean and unclean food.
Application: How can we apply this to our lives?
When Moses, Aaron, and the Israelites followed the instructions God had given to them, the glory of the Lord appeared. We, as humans, often look for God’s glorious acts without remembering to follow God’s instructions for our lives. We must serve God in the daily routines of life, always doing what He instructs us to do, obeying Him. Nadab and Abihu were careless about following the laws for sacrifices. Since they didn’t follow the instructions exactly as God had given them, they could have led many people astray and in the wrong direction. If or when God tells us to lead, instruct, or help others, we must do exactly as He instructs us. We must stay faithful to God and always follow His instructions as He guides us. God had forbidden eating the meat of certain animals that He considered unclean. He wanted the people to be separated from the things that He had forbidden. God also wants us to separate ourselves from sin and tempting situations. We must flee from temptation.
