Today I am thankful for Thanksgiving.
Dictionary.com describes Thanksgiving Day as:
“a national holiday celebrated as a day of feasting and giving thanks for divine favors or goodness, observed on the fourth Thursday of November in the U.S. and in Canada on the second Monday of October.”
“the act of giving thanks; grateful acknowledgment of benefits or favors, especially to God.”
History tells us that the Thanksgiving tradition started back in 1621 when the Pilgrims and the Indians had a harvest feast together, and so on. Then a couple hundred years later, Thanksgiving became a holiday.
When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of all that God has blessed me with and the time and fellowship spent with family around a delicious meal provided to us by God. I think of the many things that I am grateful for.
The Bible tells us to give thanks to God in all circumstances:
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.- 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! – Psalm 107:1
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, … – Ephesians 5:20
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. – Philippians 4:6
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:15-17
Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! – 2 Corinthians 9:15
Today, Thanksgiving Day, is a time to celebrate what God has done and is doing in your life. It is a time to give thanks to God in all circumstances of your life. It is a time to spend quality time with your friends and family, the people God has blessed you with.
Today I am thankful for Thanksgiving. Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day!
